Martyn Baker
Mt Martha Fine Foods

"In addition to the economic
benefits for my business, there
is a great sense of satisfaction
gained from contributing to the
local community's well being."

Martyn Baker has been operating Mt Martha Fine Foods for seven years.

Previous to arriving in Australia in 1995, Martyn was employed by British Telecom for 15 years, the last three years of which he was Divisional Manager of London Fibre-Optics Network Planning Group.

After arriving in Australia, he worked in hospitality venues on the Mornington Peninsula and managed the Sorrento Hotel before buying Mt Martha Fine Foods.

Martyn is president of the Mt Martha Village Traders Association which fosters the well being and development of local business.

He has a strong sense of personal responsibility for the community in which his business operates. He provides as much support as possible to local community groups, including kindergartens, schools and sporting clubs.

Martyn believes strongly that any benefits provided by a business to its community will return eventually as a benefit to the business.  He feels that the enthusiasm that business people have for their business should be shared with their communities which, in turn, will respond with enthusiasm and support for the business.

Certainly this appears to be borne out by the popularity of the restaurant among locals.  Most residents who eat out regularly make a B-line to Mt Martha Fine Foods if not for Martyn's famous pies, certainly for coffee and cake.
